Unit 4: Materials & Supplies for the Layered Paper Frame
These are examples -- you will be taught how to make this in different ways, personalized to you. Ideas on the left, a finished one in a shadow box on the right.
See my Unit 4 project shopping list here | Download the Unit 4 printable supply list here
- 4-6+ sheets of 12" x 12" 65-80 lb. (176-216 gsm) cardstock in contrasting colors -- I recommend one of those colors be white or very light to provide contrast
- Double-sided adhesive foam circles, double-sided adhesive foam mounting tape, or 3D Zots
- Scissors (if you need to cut mounting tape)
- Cricut cutting machine (Joy, Explore, or Maker)
- Green StandardGrip machine mat (12" x 12" for Explore/Maker, 4.5" x 12" for Cricut Joy) -- you will still need a mat for the Explore 3 and Maker 3
- Fine point blade
- Ruler (if you have a shadow box frame you need to measure)
- Scraper, Weeding Tool, Spatula
- (Optional) Scoring stylus (Explore and Maker only) or scoring tool (Maker only)
- (Optional) Shadow Box Frame (as big as 11" x 11" for Explore and Maker users, and. as small as 5" x 5" for Joy users) -- you do not have to have this
- (Optional) Tape or glue if you're going to make the paper shadow box frame from my templates
- (Optional) Photo, image, or separate design to put in your finished frame. Size will depend entirely on what size you make your frame, so it's best not to make this until after you know what size your frame opening is. If you already have something you want to place in this, you can size your frame to fit.
Unit 5: Materials & Supplies for the Custom Paper Flower
See my Unit 5 project shopping list here | Download the Unit 5 printable supply list here
- 1-20+ sheets of SOLID CORE 65 lb. cardstock in "flower" colors -- can be 8.5" x 11" or 12" x 12" -- number of sheets depends on what size you make — smaller flower is less, bigger flower is more. (Optionally, Maker and Maker 3 users with a rotary blade can use crepe paper; Explore and Joy users cannot cut crepe paper)
- Tacky glue or hot glue (which one you use will depend on the size of your flower -- I recommend tacky glue for small flowers and hot glue for big flowers)
- Cricut cutting machine (Joy, Explore, or Maker)
- Green StandardGrip machine mat (12" x 12" for Explore/Maker, 4.5" x 12" for Cricut Joy) -- you will still need a mat for the Explore 3 and Maker 3
- Fine point blade (or rotary blade + housing if you have a Maker or Maker 3 and want to cut crepe paper)
- Scraper, Weeding Tool, Spatula
- (Optional) Pan pastels or watercolors for adding depth to your flower
Optional Flower Stem Materials: I highly recommend you create the flower first, THEN get the supplies to add the stems once you know how large your flower turned out and if you even want a stem, unless you feel VERY confident.
- (Optional) 18-22 gauge green floral stem wires (for small flowers if you want to give them a stem)
- (Optional) 1/2" to 3/4" thick bendable copper tubing (for large flowers if you want to give them a stem) and an appropriately-sized pipe cutter (if your tubing is over 15 feet long)
- (Optional) Green masking tape (small and large flowers)
- (Optional) Green crepe paper streamers (large flower stems)
- (Optional) Half foam balls of varying sizes -- small ones for smaller flowers (alternate link), large ones for larger flowers
- (Optional) Green cardstock (all) or crepe paper (Maker only) for leafs
- (Optional) Magnets or velcro to attach your flower to your stem (you could also use glue if you want it to be permanently attached)
Unit 6: Materials & Supplies for Faux Leather Accessories
See my Unit 6 project shopping list here | Download the Unit 6 printable supply list here
- Faux leather (the thinner the faux leather, the easier and more intricate you can cut — Cricut faux leather is thin and does intricate cuts well. As for other brands of faux leather, all Cricut machines can cut 0.7mm faux leather, but if you go thicker than that with 1mm double-sided faux leather like this you will likely need the Deep Cut blade available for the Explore and Maker)
- Iron on vinyl (heat transfer vinyl) — used for decoration and for covering the back of the faux leather (I recommend the foil iron on vinyl for jewelry)
- Findings for your project. For keychains and tassels, you need keyrings. For jewelry, you need jump rings, earring hooks, clasps, and chains - this is a good jewelry kit if you don't have any of these items yet). For pouches and bracelets, you may want snaps and snap pliers. For key fobs, you may want key fob hardware and pliers. I recommend you pick one -- don't get it all.
- If you're making anything with jump rings, you'll want Chain nose pliers and flat nose pliers (these are also included in the jewelry kit).
- Heat source if you use iron on vinyl, such as the Cricut EasyPress Mini (you can also use a regular EasyPress and a household iron)
- Painter's tape
- Purple StrongGrip machine mat (12" x 12") for Explore/Maker or green StandardGrip machine mat (4.5" x 12") for Cricut Joy (you will still need a mat for the Explore 3 and Maker 3)
- Fine Point blade (all machines) or Deep Cut blade + housing (Explores and Makers only)
- Weeding Tool, spatula, brayer, scissors, and (optional) Cricut trimmer
- Hot glue gun or E6000 glue (for making tassels, coin purses, double-sided accessories, etc.)
- (Optional) StrongGrip transfer tape (used to keep your faux leather on your mat if you're having issues)
